The scheme of Economic Assistance Center the consists of a functional core, housing all non-service related programmatic elements of the building, adjacent to a service column, wrapped by a stairway that engulfs the entirety of the building. The primary structure is composed of a diagrid skeleton that acts to temper seismic disturbances, while also allowing daylight to penetrate important work spaces and classrooms. The diagrid also serves to support the cantilevered staircase on the exterior of the building. Perforated screens are bound to this staircase on the southwest and southeast sides of the building to mitigate solar heat. This building provides a wonderful environment for fiscally unstable individuals to gain financial bearing while also providing social services to the surrounding community.
